CWU Backs Ken Livingstone for London Mayor

29th July 2010

The Communication Workers Union is backing Ken Livingstone as Labour candidate for Mayor of London.

CWU is impressed by Ken Livingstone's pro-jobs campaign and positive outlook for London in the face of government cuts. CWU has a long history of working with Ken and will be recommending all eligible members vote for him in the upcoming election.

0Billy Hayes, CWU general secretary, said: "Ken has always been popular with CWU members because he has the right attitude and beliefs to deliver for working people.

"Ken stands up for public services, he stands up for trade union rights and he promotes a multicultural image of London which reflects the diversity of the CWU membership.

"Ken Livingstone has been clear in the selection that he will campaign against privatisation and has been campaigning against the cuts and higher fares of Boris Johnson and the Conservative-LibDem government. We believe he has the knowledge, experience and skills to protect Londoners in difficult times and he is the candidate best placed to win in 2012.

"Ken's can-do attitude and his promise to protect jobs and quality of life is exactly what Londoners need. We wholeheartedly support his campaign and urge people to vote Ken."

CWU represents 215,000 postal, telecommunication and financial services workers across the UK. CWU is affiliated to the Labour Party and is backing Ed Balls in the leadership election.
