CWU Celebrates IDAHO Day
17th May 2010
Monday 17th May 2010 is IDAHO Day [International Day Against Homophobia].
The CWU through both its Equality Department and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Advisory Committee have been committed to commemorating IDAHO for the last few years and this year a special flyer has been prepared by the LGBTAC which can be accessed by clicking on this link http://equalitylinda.blogspot.com/2010/05/celebrate-world-international-day.html
The LGBTAC community continue to suffer attacks from society purely based on intolerance and homophobia. As the flyer stipulates there are still countries, 7 of them in fact, who have criminalised same sex relationships so much that they enforce the death penalty against gays and lesbians. An incredible 80 countries outlaw same-sex relationship. In this day and age this sort of negative and intolerant outlook towards LGBT people must not be allowed to continue. Linda Roy National Equality Officer for the CWU added "Our Union is at the forefront of raising awareness of IDAHO Day and the need for those countries around the world who seek to punish and demonise the LGBT community to be exposed for their inhumane attitudes".
Anyone with any queries in relation to the above should contact the CWU Equality department on lroy@cwu.org
