DHL Parcel

The CWU is an active trade union.

We are constantly campaigning, negotiating and lobbying to ensure that members are properly rewarded for the skilled work they do.

We have a growing membership in DHL parcels amongst driving and non-driving employees. Many of our members joined because they want to be part of a wider community that puts their interests first, but many also joined because they want to secure safe and transparent working conditions for themselves and their colleagues.

All workers are entitled to join and be represented by a trade union no matter whether your employer chooses to formally recognise a union or not. In fact it’s a basic human right.  DHL as a company have a policy not to discourage people to join a union. DHL social responsibility policy pledges to allow people to join a union and recognises your right to do so.

If you work for a Delivery/Parcel company that is not DHL Parcels UK you are still very important to us, please click here.

DHL and Covid-19 – Understanding your concerns

CWU are keen to hear your experiences of how your employer is dealing with Covid-19 in the workplace.  Do you feel safe at work? Are you concerned about your finances should you fall ill? What procedures does your employer have in place?  Let us know, please complete our survey here (if you haven’t already) and encourage your colleagues to do the same.

The more information we have the more we can help you build a voice for workers in DHL.

The CWU is calling on DHL to protect workers from Covid-19 by creating and fully implementing appropriate health and safety policies including:

  • Halt all operations when cases are detected to complete hospital-grade disinfection of the facilities,  and fully inform staff when cases are confirmed
  • Conduct thorough hospital-grade cleaning between shifts.  A consistent process in place to regularly and thoroughly clean all scanners
  • Regularly disinfect shared spaces such as cafeteria, restrooms etc. throughout every shift,
  • Instruct all staff on social distancing
  • In emergency cases, to reduce the spread of infection, engage in temporary closures with full salary payment, for a specific period of time.
  •  Provide hand washing and hand sanitising products in all workplaces during every shift, and on deliveries. Additional break time permitted to regularly wash hands.

Union Recognition – What does it mean?

You probably know that your union, the CWU, will represent you if you’re in trouble. But union membership is also about shaping your working life for the better. You can make your employer listen to you – on your own terms – if you demand it. But you need to do it together. Your employer might tell you “you don’t need a union” – that the ECG does the same thing; but there is no substitute for an independent union: the ECG belongs to the company, the union belongs to you.

With your union “recognised” your employer has to speak to you about your terms and conditions, your pay and benefits. The company doesn’t exist without you but they have all the power – unless you take that power back. This is what a union does. It gives you the power to deal with your employer as an equal. But only if you act together and demand that voice.

If you want to know what you can do to make your voice count, to share more equally in the profits you create then get in contact with us and we’ll work with you to make it happen. You have the power if you want it.
