CAPITA TVL: FORMAL PAY CLAIM 1ST JANUARY 2020

Branches are advised that further pay discussions for our members were held up due to TVL management continuing to wait for a formal mandate from Capita Group before being in a position to make an offer on pay. In addition, the apparent complexities with the Group’s financial situation, followed by the impact of Covid-19 and the government’s announcement of the lockdown on 23rd March have impacted upon our negotiations.

On Friday 17th April, a communication from Matthew Vallance, Managing Director, (attached) was issued to a number of contracts in the Customer Management Division, which includes our TVL members. The letter confirmed the following:

• Capita will honour its commitment (made last year by the CEO Jon Lewis) to pay the Real Living Wage (currently £9.30 per hour) from 1st April 2020 to all those earning below this amount.

In recent years our efforts have focused on raising pay for the lowest paid workers and the benefit of placing members on the Real Living Wage is a positive. I am therefore pleased that a significant number of members (mainly in Darwen) will benefit from this.

It should be noted that our pay claim stands, including the objective of securing the increase to £9.30 per hour from the pay date of 1st January 2020 and I have made this clear in a letter to Paul Johnston TVL Partnership Director (attached).

Our immediate focus now is to commence pay negotiations for all members including those earning above the Real Living Wage and any that are currently earning just below the RLW and would therefore only receive a small or modest increase. In this regard, I have urged Paul Johnston to meet with the Union at the earliest opportunity. Further developments will be reported.
