CWU welcomes Royal Mail results
Commenting on Royal Mail’s latest half year results (released today), the Communication Workers Union (CWU) said it welcomed the company’s solid financial performance reported in the six months to September.
Terry Pullinger, CWU Deputy General Secretary said: “These results show CWU members have played a critical role in delivering another solid set of financial results. Despite economic uncertainty, tough trading conditions and an unfair regulatory backdrop, Royal Mail’s performance remains resilient. As well as delivering increased revenues and productivity, CWU members have also helped the company exceed tough quality of service targets in relation to both first and second class mail which are some of the highest in Europe”.
Responding to the results, Dave Ward CWU General Secretary added: “We hope Royal Mail will continue to work closely with the CWU to deliver future growth in the business. Given the continued decline in letter volumes and growing competition in the industry, we call on the regulator Ofcom to ensure its ongoing review of Royal Mail guarantees the company has sufficient revenues and resources to protect daily deliveries and support the UK’s vital universal postal service”.
